With the snow flying, please make sure your calendars are marked for the 4th Annual DES Sock Hop on Friday, February 19th in the Northwest High School Cafeteria. This is a fun event that your children won’t want to miss, and volunteers are needed to help with all aspects of the evening. Look for the flyer in the forthcoming Mustang Magazine for details. To volunteer for Sock Hop duties, please contact chairs Tina Petzold and Tracy Story. To volunteer to help with the Silent Auction, please contact Korin Wilson. Contact information for these wonderful volunteers as well as details on areas where volunteers are needed can be found on the the Events Page. Attention 4th Grade Parents! We are in need of a chairperson (or two) to organize Darnestown History Day, held on May 20th. This is a truly special day, where our 4th graders get to hear from local historians and residents about the early days of our community. The format is the same each year, and we have several volunteers signed on to help with the activities, but we really need a chairperson to coordinate with 4th grade teachers to make this happen. Diane Harris has graciously offered to contact the speakers now to reserve the date, but we need a fourth grade parent to come forward to take the lead. Please contact me (301-869-4719, or mjkcrogers@verizon.net) if you are willing to chair this important event for 4th graders. Science Day presenters have been in the classrooms (working around the snow days scheduling!) drumming up interest in the Science Expo to be held on February 23rd (see the flyer on the Newsworthy Page). If your child is interested in doing a project for the Expo, please fill in the registration form on the Forms Page and return it to the office by February 17th. Remember that it is perfectly fine for these to be ‘elementary’ projects! The important thing is to get our students interested in science, and understanding how the process of science works. For more information, please contact Tammy Tabor (phone 301 926 2077). Don’t forget to check out the Newsworthy Page for the latest Box Tops for Education news. Kelley Rogers, DES-PTA President
It's not too late to join the PTA. Membership gives you a voice in your child's school life as well as a chance to connect with parents who share your educational priorities. Print up a Membership Form from the Forms Page, fill it out and send it in! It is that easy! |
Montgomery County Public Schools are closed on Monday, February 8, and Tuesday, February 9, due to emergency weather conditions. All school and community activities in school buildings are canceled. Administrative Offices are closed Monday, February 8.
Below is an important message to our community business supporters:
On February 19, 2010, the PTA at Darnestown ES will hold a family sock hop and silent auction. The auction will generate funds to support our mission of enhancing the education for the students and staff. The money raised will go directly back to the school to finance the science and cultural arts enrichment programs, and for technology upgrades for classroom teachers.
We hope that your business will be able to make a contribution for the silent auction. The auction brochure will be given to all families, and will list contributors, and will also be posted on this website for further exposure. Since the Darnestown PTA is a registered non-profit organization (Federal Tax ID 526070735), your contribution is tax-deductible.
In this shaky economic climate, we greatly appreciate your support. Your contribution allows us to continue to enrich the lives of the students and supplement the efforts of the staff at Darnestown ES. If you are able to make a contribution, please complete the form on the Forms Page and send it to Korin Wilson, our Silent Auction Chairperson, at korin22@comcast.net. Korin would be happy to answer any questions you might have at 301-216-2270.
