About Us

The DES PTA is affiliated with the Montgomery County Council of PTA's, the MCCPTA, under the authority of the Maryland Congress of Parents and Teachers, the state PTA, and a branch of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, the national PTA.

Our goals are as follows:

• To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children
• To develop betwen educators and the general public united efforts that will secure the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education for all children
• To encourage partnerships that will increase parental involvement and participation in promoting the social, emotional and academic growth of children

With these goals in mind, the DES PTA functions in several ways, which broadly fit into the following categories:

• Fostering communication between the community and the school administration
• Providing various services and special programs to enrich the services and facilities made available by the county
• Generating a sense of community spirit centering around the school

Membership in the PTA is vital to all PTA's. It allows you to more fully participate in your child's education. DES PTA Members are eligible to vote on the budget as well as on the priorities that the PTA places on various activities. Members also receive a school directory and are automatically added to our List Serve. Membership forms can be downloaded from this site and returned to school via your child's backpack.

Our PTA List Serve is an email communication tool that we use to send out information about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities and, in conjunction with the school, emergency notifications. Join our List Serve by entering your email address in the box at the bottom of the Home Page and then clicking on the adjacent "join now" link.
